Moving to Hyderabad for an IT job: where to stay first

Got an offer in Hitec City, Gachibowli or Kondapur? Here's what to sort out before and after you arrive, and how to choose where to live for your first few months.

Before you arrive

  • Confirm your office address. Hitec City, Gachibowli and the Financial District are close but not the same commute.
  • Ask HR whether there's a cab service, shuttle or travel allowance. It changes how far you can live from the office.
  • Keep your government ID and offer letter or office ID handy. Most PGs and landlords ask for them.
  • Book a place for at least your first month before you land, so you're not house-hunting during joining week.

Why many people start in a PG

In your first months you don't yet know which area suits you, who your colleagues are, or whether you want flatmates. A flat locks you into a deposit, furniture and a lease before you know any of that.

A PG gives you a furnished room, food, WiFi and housekeeping from day one. Once you've settled in, you can decide whether to stay or move to a flat with people you've met.

Choosing an area

Living right inside Hitec City is convenient but busy. Areas a few kilometres away, like Hafeezpet, Kondapur and Miyapur, are residential and still close to the offices.

Hafeezpet has an MMTS station, buses on routes like 222 and 216K/L, and Miyapur metro about 2.6 km from RK Embassy. Cyber Towers in Hitec City is about 3.4 km away, straight-line.

Your first week

  • Do the office commute once before day one, at the time you'll actually travel.
  • Get a local SIM or update your address for deliveries.
  • Find your nearest hospital and pharmacy. Kondapur has several multispeciality hospitals near Hafeezpet.
  • Keep your first month simple. Settle into work before making long-term housing decisions.
